Natural minerals mixture for enhancing concrete compressive strength
Journal Title: Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale - Year 2012, Vol 6, Issue 22
Abstract
The construction material quality is required to be improved in order to enhancing structure stability, optimizing construction cost and quality. The kaolin and bentonite have been mixed in equal quantity and treated by heat for 1 hour under 600 ºC, 800 ºC and 1000 ºC to create new minerals under high temperature condition to introduce an acceptable concrete additive for achieving concrete compressive strength in early age. To study micro properties of additive-cement mixture, X-ray and FESEM experiments have been used. The results indicate that acceptable proportion of unheated kaolin-bentonite is improving the concrete compressive response. But if kaolin-bentonite mixture treated by heat under 800 ºC and in quantity of 12 % has been used in concrete mixed design, then the concrete compressive strength of 7 days shows the best result. The result is due to the development of new minerals under high temperature condition in mineral mixture and also kaolin-bentonite additive change cement past crystal and lead to enhancement of nano structural cement bonding.

Use of FBG sensors for monitoring cracks of the equestrian statue of Bartolomeo Colleoni in Venice
The Bartolomeo Colleoni monument suffered for years damage from the local climate. The process of restoring the Colleoni equestrian statue, started in 2003, allowed to understand how the bronze statue was origina...
Growth of long fatigue cracks under non-proportional loadings – experiment and simulation
An experimental campaign was carried out on thin-walled tubes under tension and torsion. The results from experiments are measured and compared. It is observed that cracks follow a shear-dominated growth pattern...
Indentation response of a NiTi shape memory alloy: modeling and experiments
The indentation response of a pseudoelastic nickel-titanium based shape memory alloy (SMA) has been analyzed. Indentation tests have been carried out at room temperature using a spherical diamond tip and indentatio...
Critical crack path assessments in failure investigations
This paper presents a case study in which identification of the controlling crack path was critical to identifying the root cause of the failure. The case involves the rupture of a 30-inch (0.76 m) natural gas pip...
Short review: Potential impact of delamination cracks on fracture toughness of structural materials
The current energy policy envisages extended lifetime for the current nuclear power plants (GEN II NPP). This policy imposes a large research effort to understand the ageing of power plant components. In this...
