Survey effect of solarization duration and thickness of polyethylene plastic sheets on the characteristics and seed bank of weeds

Journal Title: Scientia Agriculturae - Year 2013, Vol 2, Issue 2

Abstract

According to the problems arising from the use of herbicides, nowadays great desire to develop alternative strategies for weed management has come into existence. one of ecological weed management Solutions in areas with high radiation of the sun, is the method of soil solarization . in order to study the effect of soil solarization on the weed control, a factorial experiment in randomized complete block design with three replications at the research field of Islamic Azad university Khorasgan in summer 2011 Was performed . Experimental factors, including duration of the solarization at seven-level ( 0 ,10 ,20 ,30 ,40 ,50 ,60 , days) and thickness of the polyethylene plastic sheet in two levels (100 and 200 microns), respectively. Results showed that increasing the duration of solarization caused a significant decrease in dry weight, density and weed seed bank . Also reduction of the polyethylene plastic sheet thickness has caused a significant decrease in dry weight, density and weed seed bank. According to this experiment the result is taken soil solarization for 60 days with a 100 micron polyethylene plastic sheet has the best effect on weed management.
