The antioxidant, general toxicity and insecticidal activities of Nepeta scrophularioides Rech. f. extracts in different developmental stages
Journal Title: Pakistan Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences - Year 2015, Vol 28, Issue 5
Abstract
The essence of the present study is to focus on the antioxidant, general toxicity and insecticidal properties of the extracts of Nepeta scrophularioides Rech.f. during different developmental (vegetative, flowering, post-flowering) stages. The samples were subjected to screening for their possible antioxidant activities by using 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. The extractsof the flowering and the post-flowering stages showed higher antioxidant activity than those from the vegetative stage. The MeOH extracts of N. scrophularioides in different development stages were tested for cytotoxicity by brine shrimp toxicity assay. The result obtained for the bio assay was found to be significantly lethality. Among the samples, the extracts of flowering stage were found to be the most active with a LC50 value of 0.078 mg/mL. All three extracts showed significant insecticidal activity at the concentration of 20 mg/mL dose of test sample after 24 h. The extracts of vegetative and post-flowering were the most potent samples.
Complexation of β-sitosterol with tris (dibenzylideneacetone) dipalladium and its anti-microbial activity
β-sitosterol is a naturally occurring plant sterol (phytosterol) present in many fruits and vegetables. Scientific research has proven that β-sitosterol is helpful in maintaining the proper functioning of our body....
Delayed encephalopathy of acute carbon monoxide intoxication in rats: potential mechanism and intervention of dexamethasone
We aimed to investigate the potential mechanism (s) of delayed encephalopathy after acute carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning in rats, and the effect of dexamethasone on this process. A delayed encephalopathy animal mod...
Docking studies of antidepressants against single crystal structure of tryptophan 2, 3-dioxygenase using Molegro Virtual Docker software
Tryptophan 2, 3-dioxygenase (TDO) a heme containing enzyme found in mammalian liver is responsible for tryptophan (Trp) catabolism. Trp is an essential amino acid that is degraded in to N-formylkynurenine by the action o...
Assessing of oxidative stress related parameters in diabetes mellitus type 2: Cause excessive damaging to DNA and enhanced homocysteine in diabetic patients
Oxidative stress and reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been documented subsist to the pathogenesis of many diseases including diabetes mellitus. The strength of both parameters could be estimated by measuring oxid...
Effects of total body irradiation on fatty acid and total lipid content of rats
We examined time-dependent changes in plasma lipids of rats given total body irradiation (TBI) with X-rays at 3 Gy. for consecutive periods. Animals were exposed to x ray radiations consecutively for 20 days at 5 day int...
