The competitiveness of the cooperative banking sector in Poland

Abstract
This article presents the subject of competition and competitiveness of banks operating in polish banking sector. Cooperative banks are important part of banking sector in Poland, which face increasing competition from private banks and other financial institutions. The competitiveness of cooperative banking sector has been analysed based on following criteria: number of branches, market share, net interest margin, profitability ratios – ROA (return on assets), ROE (return on equity) and the costeffectiveness ratio C /I (cost to income). The article is based on statistic data from National Bank of Poland and Polish Financial Supervision Authority.
