The numerical simulation of ceramic composites failure at axial compression
Journal Title: Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale - Year 2013, Vol 7, Issue 24
Abstract
On the basis of the developed model of quasibrittle medium the brittle and quasibrittle failure of composite ceramic materials with zirconium dioxide matrix and various percentage of hardening particles of corundum are studied numerically. The theory of the damaged media is applied in the calculations. It is shown that failure process educes in 2 stages - a relatively slow quasistationary phase of accumulation of inelastic deformations and damages in all hierarchy of scales and superfast catastrophic phase - a blow-up regime when the failure process reaches the macro-scale and there is a macro-crack formation. The failure process in the proposed model assumes to be completed when the damage function reaches its maximum value and the strength of the composite evolve to zero.

Fretting in complete contacts - the use of Williams’ solution
Williams’ solution may be used to characterize the corners of ‘complete’ fretting contacts. Here we look at the practicalities of conducting fretting tests using a range of different kinds of apparatus and the kin...
Modelling the mechanical behaviour of metal powder during Die compaction process
In this work, powder compaction process was investigated by using a numerical material model, which involves Mohr-Coulomb theory and an elliptical surface plasticity model. An effective algorithm was developed an...
Are the Paris’ law parameters dependent on each other?
The question about the existence of a correlation between the parameters C and m of the Paris’ law is re-examined in this paper. According to dimensional analysis and incomplete self-similarity concepts applied to...
Impact response of balsa core sandwiches
The benefits of resins nano-enhanced on the impact response of sandwich composites made by fiber glass/epoxy skins and balsa wood core were studied. Afterwards, the influence of the core's discontinuity was analy...
Three-dimensional effects on cracked discs and plates under nominal Mode III loading
The existence of three-dimensional effects at cracks has been known for many years, but understanding has been limited, and for some situations still is. Understanding improved when the existence of corner po...
