Nematicidal Effect of Some Botanical Powders and Poultry Manure Against the Root-Knot Nematode Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid and White) Chitwood infecting Tomato Plants
Journal Title: Egyptian Journal of Agronematology - Year 2014, Vol 13, Issue 1
Abstract
A greenhouse experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of soil amendment with six botanical leaves powders and poultry manure in controlling Meloidogyne incognita infecting tomato and their potency in growth improvement. The result of the study showed that all the treatments significantly (p<0.05) reduced root galling, second-stage juveniles in soil, developmental stages and egg masses and reductions differed according to the amended materials. Although all treatments were effective in reducing root galls and nematode population, soil treated with leaves powder of Peganum harmala gave the highest reduction in nematode criteria followed by Datura stramonium and Nicotiana glauca, However, Azadirachta indica had the least reduction compared to the untreated check. The efficacy increased with the increase in dosage rates except with poultry manure at the highest dosage. Most soil amendments at different dosage rates significantly improved the shoot and root weights. Peganum harmala achieved the highest increase, while Azadirachta indica gave the lowest one.

Evaluation of Deficit Irrigation Effects on Sugarbeet Productivity and Control of Root- knot Nematode, Meloidogyne incognita Infection
Water shortages have increased growers interest to investigate the effects of deficit irrigation (DI) levels, i.e. 25, 50 and 75% of irrigation water requirement (IWR) compared with the full irrigation level (100 % of IW...
Effect of Tylenchulus semipenetrans inoculum levels on its development, reproduction potential, and damage to infected-Volkamariana seedlings
Six inocula 0, 5000, 10000, 15000, 20000 and 25000 second stage juveniles (J2) and males/pot of T. semipenetrans were tested on 1.5-year-old nematode-free seedlings of Citrus volkameriana. The inoculated seedlings were g...
Inducing resistance in eggplant against Meloidogyne incognita by organic and inorganic fertilizers, plant growth regulators and amino acids
Organic and inorganic fertilizers, commercial products containing organic and amino acids, vitamins as well as plant growth regulators were tested for their ability to induce nematode resistance in eggplant. Results indi...
In vitro Study on the Antagonistic Activity of Different Native Isolates of Rhizobacteria Against Meloidogyne incognita
The nematicidal properties of eight isolates of rhizobacteria as well as an isolate of Pseudomons fluorescens against egg hatching and juveniles mortality of Meloidogyne incognita after different exposure periods were in...
Identification of Five Phytonematode Species Associated with Forage Legumes
Five species of plant parasitic nematodes were present in soil samples planted with forage legumes at Florida, USA. The found species Meloidogyne arenaria, M. incognita, M. javanica, Pratylenchus brachyurus and Tylenchor...
