New Estimation Rules for Unknown Parameters on Holt-Winters Multiplicative Method
Journal Title: Journal of Mathematical and Fundamental Sciences - Year 2017, Vol 49, Issue 2
Abstract
The Holt-Winters method is a well-known forecasting method used in time-series analysis to forecast future data when a trend and seasonal pattern is detected. There are two variations, i.e. the additive and the multiplicative method. Prior study by Vercher, et al. in [1] has shown that choosing the initial conditions is very important in exponential smoothing models, including the Holt-Winters method. Accurate estimates of initial conditions can result in better forecasting results. In this research, we propose new estimation rules for initial conditions for the Holt-Winters multiplicative method. The estimation rules were derived from the original initial conditions combined with the weighted moving average method. From the experimental results it was found that the new approach of the Holt-Winters multiplicative method can outperform the original Holt-Winters multiplicative method.

Lithium Titanate (LTO) Synthesis Through Solid State Reaction and Its Performance for LiFePO4/LTO Battery
Lithium titanate, LTO, was synthesized by solid state reaction with Li2CO3 and TiO2 powder as precursors. The result was characterized to investigate its crystal structure, phase content, cell parameters, surface morphol...
Generalization of Slightly Compressible Modules
In this paper, we give a generalization of slightly compressible modules. We introduce the notion of M-slightly compressible modules, i.e. a right R module N is called M-slightly compressible if for every nonzero submodu...
Modelling Multiple Dosing with Drug Holiday in Antiretroviral Treatment on HIV-1 Infection
A within-host mathematical model to describe the dynamics of target cells and viral load in early HIV-1 infection was developed, which incorporates a combination of RTI and PI treatments by using a pharmacokinetics model...
Novel Ternary CoFe2O4/CuO/CoFe2O4 as a Giant Magnetoresistance Sensor
This paper reports the results of a study relating to the synthesis of a novel ternary CoFe2O4/CuO/CoFe2O4 thin film as a giant magnetoresistance (GMR) sensor. The CoFe2O4/CuO/CoFe2O4 thin film was prepared onto silicon...
Study on Estimates of Travel Distance, Velocity and Potential Volume of Amahusu Sliding Plane using Energy Conservation Approach in Conjunction with Geoelectric Survey
The investigation of landslides applying various methods has been receiving increased attention in recent years. This study was aimed at assessing the estimated distribution of landslide movement using an energy conserva...
