Normative and legal framework of the Canadian-Russian relations as a prerequisite for a mutually beneficial partnership

Abstract

The article deals with the normative and legal framework that regulates political, trade and economic relations between Canada and Russia, reflects the main provisions of the Canadian-Russian bilateral treaties. The main directions of cooperation between the two countries are described in accordance with the concluded treaties. A special feature of the legal framework for relations with Canada is the availability in of a number of agreements in Russia, that signed in recent years with certain provinces of Canada on trade, economic and cultural ties. According to the Agreement on cooperation between Canada and Russia in the Arctic and in the North of 1989, the functions of the Joint Canadian-Russian Commission in the Arctic in the North were determined. An intensification of ties between the regions of Canada and the Russian Federation was analyzed. For example, Quebec and Alberta are particularly prominent in Canada, and on the Russian side are prominent Moscow, St. Petersburg, etc. The author studies the main reasons of the growing interest of Russia to Canada. The growth of Russia’s interest in Canada is caused not only by economic, political and ideological circumstances, but also by the changing role of Canada in the modern world. Special attention was paid to the normative and legal base of Canadian-Russian relations and was set strategic directions Canada-Russia partnership and future forms of cooperation.
