Numerical Investigations of Dynamic Stall Control
Journal Title: INCAS BULLETIN - Year 2014, Vol 6, Issue 1
Abstract
In this paper we investigated numerically the dynamic stall phenomenon and the possibilities to control it, with application to vertical axis wind turbines (for urban users). The Phenomenon appear at low tip speed ratio (TSR<4) and it has a great impact on structural integrity of the wind turbine and power performances. For this reason we performed a computational study of dynamic stall around NACA 0012 airfoil in pitching motion at relative low Reynolds number (~10[sup]5[/sup]). Also, we performed the same analysis for four flow control methods: two passive (Gurney flap and slot) and two active (blowing jet on the rounded trailing edge and synthetic jet periodically activated). The Results are compared to those of an existing experimental case test.

Flow visualization techniques, new developments and modernization of the existing Schlieren system in the Trisonic Wind Tunnel
Schlieren flow visualization methods are an important part of high speed wind tunnel testing, being a fast and reliable method of graphically presenting complex dynamic phenomena that occur in high subsonic, transonic an...
Analytical solutions for the temperature field in a 2D incompressible inviscid flow through a channel with walls of solid fuel
A gas (oxidizer) flows between two parallel walls of solid fuel. A combustion is initiated: the solid fuel is vaporized and a diffusive flame occurs. The hot combustion products are submitted both to thermal diffusion an...
Notes regarding the supply and drain pressure effects on a squeeze film damper
Squeeze film dampers (SFD) are perhaps the most efficient devices that, can be used nowadays to control the shafts in airworthy turbo-compressors. Various other devices can be successfully used in land-based rotating mac...
Reconstruction of High-Frequency Lunar Digital Elevation Model using Shape from Shading
This paper deals with a procedure to reconstruct a lunar surface based on fusion of Shape from Shading with absolute depth information exploited from Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter data. The generation of accurate lunar d...
