Numerical Study of Flow Patterns around T shape spur dike And Support Structure
Journal Title: Journal of River Engineering - Year 2014, Vol 2, Issue 5
Abstract
Spur dike is one of the economical ways to preserve river morphology. The numerical methods are so repeatable, and there can reduce time and the cost of simulation versus experimental methods. In the present study the flow patterns around T shape spur dike, when a support structure located in upstream of T shape spur dike, have been analyzed in 90 degrees bend channel by Flow-3D model. To verify numerical model both of the numerical and the experimental data compared in longitudinal section. Indeed, results show acceptable agreements between numerical and experimental data. After verification a support structure has been installed in the upstream of T shape spur dike with five distance times bigger than the length of T shape spur dike. Support structure changed the flow patterns and hydraulic parameters such as the power of secondary flow and separation zone in all of the section. Amount of power of secondary flow decreased more than 50 percent when support structure located in upstream of T shape spur dike.
