NUTRIGENOMICS

Abstract

Nutrigenomics is a new scientifi c area, exploring through the technologies of genomics and bioinformatics, the association between nutrients and gene expression as well as the infl uence of genetic variability – epigenetics and single-nucleotide polymorphisms on nutrient requirements and health risk. Direct interactions between nutrients and genes, epigenetic regulation and nutrigenetic interactions, determinants of differentiation of nutrient requirements and individual chronic disease risk are presented. Establishing the “Nutritional phenotype database” and curating it by international Nutrigenomics Organisation will permit the personalized approach on the basis of the individual’ s genotype.
