OBESITY IN THE FAMILY AS THE ETIOLOGICAL FACTOR IN OCCURRENCE OF HIGH BODY MASS AMONG CHILDREN AND THE ASSOCIJATED PSYCHOSOCIAL IMPLICATIONS

Abstract

This re se arch was in spi red by the re cently pu blis hed re sults of the exa mi na ti on of pu blic he alth in Mon te ne gro con duc ted by Mi ni stry of He alth, La bor and So cial Wel fa re of Mon te ne gro in co o pe ra tion with the In sti tu te of Pu blic He alth which we re sup por ted by the World Bank. The pu blis hed re sults in di ca te that, among ot her things, mo re than a half of adult po pu la tion and abo ut 20 per cent of chil dren are over we ight. Physi cal inacti vity is sta ted to be the prin ci pal ca u se of it. Ha ving in mind that the physi cal inac ti vity acts as the he alth risk fac tor upon which we can act pre ven ti vely by the or ga ni zed physical ac ti vity, we con duc ted a re se arch on in ci den ce of obe sity among ele men tary school chil dren and the ir pa rents in or der to iden tify pos si ble cor re la tion and, if pos si ble, to re du ce its oc cur ren ce. The re sults ob ta i ned show that the re is a sig ni fi cant cor re la tion bet we en obe sity among chil dren and obe sity among the ir pa rents. With the ade qu a te edu ca tion it wo uld be pos si ble to in clu de fa mi li es with this pro blem in well or ga ni zed physi cal ac ti vi ti es in or der to re du ce this om ni pre sent he alth pro blem.
