Journal Title: Zarządzanie ochroną przyrody w lasach - Year 2014, Vol 0, Issue 1
Abstract
Armillaria (Fr.) Staude and Heterobasidion annosum (Fr.) Bref. cause economically important diseases of forest trees. These fungi are among the most dangerous causes of damage in stands all over the world. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of infectious diseases of Scots pine tree roots of the first age class depending on certain characteristics of growth, vitality and quality of trees. The study was conducted in the Mirosławiec Forest District. The observations were carried out on the six areas of BMśw habitat with Scots pine as the dominant species. There were chosen two areas of the same age, and so the area 1 and 2 are pines at the age of 4 years, the area 3 and 4 of pines at the age of 5 years, and the area 5 and 6 are pines at the age of 6 years. On the areas100 trees were randomly selected in a group. The height, crown length and diameter at the root collar momentum were measured on these trees and alive classes of needles were counted. The next step was the determination of the quality and vitality of trees. On the basis of the symptoms of the disease in selected trees there was specified % of infestation by Heterobasidion roots rot and Armillaria root rot. At all observation plots there were found both kinds of fungi. The paralysis of the trees occurred to different extent in the areas. There were no effects of the quality characteristics and growth of trees on the infection by the pathogens of roots.
