Abstract

ASSESSMENT IN THE FIELD OF DEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL OF FAMILY AND NON-FAMILY FIRMS – QUANTITATIVE APPROACH Small and medium-sized sector is a driving factor of social and economic development of countries’ all over the world. At the same time the sector is a great environment for establishment and functioning of family businesses. Dissimilarity of family firms in comparison to non-family firms is proven by the specific structure of the aforementioned above family firms. These are objects where the three circles of family, business and ownership interpenetrate and interrelate. Charisma, the founder potential and support provided by the relatives influence significantly the future of the business. Is the family-dominated ownership a sufficient argument to accept reasoning that family firms perform better on the market that non-family firms. In such a reality the aim of the paper is to assess the development potential of family and non-family firms and to draw possible similarities or dissimilarities in this field. The author has decided to implement the univariate analysis of variance (ANOVA), which enabled indication of variables that diversify the level of constructed synthetic measure of development (rozw). On the bases of conducted analysis it was proven that within the sample, in the field of development potential, on average, a little bit better perform family firms than non-family firms. Moreover, achieved results induce to further research in the aforementioned field.
