OFFICER PROFESSION IN NEW SOCIAL CONSIDERATIONS BASED ON ROLES PERFORMED BY CIVILIAN UNIVERSITY GRADUATES

Journal Title: Scientific Journal of the Military University of Land Forces - Year 2014, Vol 171, Issue 1

Abstract

Being competent to serve as officers in the Polish Armed Forces is an important element for the creation and preservation of the security system of the country. The author’s own research shows that performing this social role is treated dichotomously by graduates from civilian universities. On the one hand, this unique vocation is treated in material terms. The performance of the officer profession is identified with higher status and supports the opinion of good pay. On the other hand, the officer profession is seen from the angle of intangible values related to patriotism and ethos. It is these values that are particularly conducive to the proper performance of this role. The characteristics presented in this article may constitute, according to the author, the basis for a more profound analysis of the features necessary for officer-candidates.
