On the Stability of a Class of Non-Ideal Systems
Journal Title: Romanian Journal of Acoustics and Vibration - Year 2014, Vol 11, Issue 2
Abstract
A vibrating system is said ideal when its excitation is not influenced by the response of the system. When the excitation is influenced by the response of the system, the system is said non-ideal. A new degree of freedom is present in such systems, for which a new equation has to be added in order to describe how the energy source interacts with the vibrating system. The energy transfer is governed by the Sommerfeld effect which appears as a result of the law of energy conservation. In this paper, the response to vibrations of a class of non-ideal systems is analyzed. The coupling between the structure to a power source acts like a energy sink for which a part of the source energy is spend to deform the system rather than increasing the drive speed. The Sommerfeld effect involves on the one hand the vibration reduction and, on the other hand, a chaotic behavior with riddling bifurcation which explains the creation of the hyperchaotic attractors.

The Motion of a Rigid Body with a Point Constrained to Move on a Fixed Given Surface Using a Multibody Approach
In this paper we discuss the problem of a rigid body having a point constrained to move without friction on a fixed given surface. Firstly, using Bryan’s angles, we deduce the kinematic relations between different parame...
THE SOMMERFELD EFFECT
The Sommerfeld effect is a universal phenomenon which appears as a result of the law of energy conservation. Arnold Sommerfeld discovered this phenomenon in 1902, while making an experiment with a cantilever beam connect...
Passive and semi-active bracing systems for seismic protection: a comparative study
This paper analyses comparatively the seismic response of structures equipped by two types of dissipative bracing systems: passive devices with variable friction and semi-active devices with magnetoreological fluids. Bot...
About the Neutral Axis Distortion due to Cracks and its Influence upon the Beams Natural Frequencies
In this paper the distortion of the neutral axis of cantilever beams due to damage is analyzed via numerical simulations. Both static and dynamic behaviors are considered, aiming to prove that the damage affects all bend...
Vibrations induced by friction forces in dynamic systems
Vibrations induced by friction generated a series of major problems in functioning of mechanisms of industrial equipment. Dynamic systems, with parts in motion, function with friction due to direct contact between surfac...
