One Architecture Fits All – IBM Mainframe

Abstract

IBM running the z/OS workhorse with the huge majority of financial, insurance, health care, government, retail and utility companies today to run their enterprises solution. Today, mainframe computers play a central role in the daily operations of most of the world’s largest corporations, including many Fortune 1000 companies. While other forms of computing are used extensively in various business capacities, the mainframe occupies a coveted place in today’s e-business environment. In banking, finance, health care, insurance, public utilities, government, and a multitude of other public and private enterprises, the mainframe computer continues to form the foundation of modern business. Today’s mainframe has taken on an additional critical role as an energy efficient system. As energy costs are increasing at a rate of 2.8% per year, energy costs to power equipment often exceed the purchase cost of the hardware itself.
