Open tympanoplasty – indications, operative technique

Abstract
Open tympanoplasty is the standard procedure in otology which is well defied and widely spread among otorhinolaryngologists. It is preferable techniques in very advanced cases and in reoperations due to cholesteatoma recidive. The principle of this operation is to remove completely the superior and posterior part of the external osseous auditory canal and creation so called modifid radical cavity (not Bondy modifid radical mastoidectomy). As the consequence of this wide opening, the obligatory last step of this operation is enlargement of the skin entry to the external auditory canal. Open tympanoplasty can be effective technique especially in cholesteatoma.
