Optimal structure of coal production for TPP of Ukraine regarding imports

Journal Title: Проблеми загальної енергетики - Year 2015, Vol 0, Issue 3

Abstract

Current situation in energy sector of the country, and selection of ways to improve the reliability and efficiency of supply and consumption of fuel caused the development of mathematical techniques for selecting optimal ways and volumes of fuel supply for power generating facilities based on price of coal production type. The aim of the study is to conduct basic calculations of optimal structure of own coal products for TPP regarding the possible imports at the lowest price that gives practical possibility to increase the reliability and efficiency for providing and using coal products in TPPs with varying consumer quality in reducing domestic production. To achieve this goal, meaningful mathematical formulation of the problem is formed. To solve the problem a special tool Solver in MS Excel spreadsheets was used. The solution of the problem provides the optimal structure of reserves of energy generation industry in the country with acceptable quality parameters at minimum cost regarding the imported coal products. The developed mathematical model for optimization of supplying TPP was tested, which coal products have basic thermophysical properties at the lowest price. An important feature of this model is considering possible supply of imported coal to the power plants of Ukraine. Based on the proposed the model of optimal structure of fuel supply for TPPs of anthracite and gas groups was obtained considering imported coal products, which satisfies the amounts of conventional fuel and its calorific value in accordance with design characteristics of power plants. The obtained results confirm increase the need in purchase cost of anthracite coal group given that attracting imports in the industry on average by 13.8% (1197552 trillion USD in prices as of 2014), which is primarily due to its quality properties and transport expenditures.
