Optimistic Approach of Adiga in The White Tiger

Journal Title: Notions A Journal of English Literature - Year 2017, Vol 0, Issue 2

Abstract

Any lead character, in any art form has to be optimistic. So too the main character in the novel The White Tiger. The main character Balram is all the time found to be poignant towards the goal of becoming the entrepreneur, a rich entrepreneur. To achieve this high goal he has to be passionate about it always. This passion very much urged him to work on it. It is all about a desire, a desire means, a collection of promises that someone or something to make possible for us‘. As far as the desires are concerned they lean toward fantasies of good living‘, and so ‘closeness to the object means the proximity to the cluster of things that the object promises‘. So ‘all dersires are optimistic‘. It is central point to note that ‘the yielding to the return to the scene where the object drifts in its potentialities is the operation of optimism as an tough form‘. More simply, this is the ‘affective structure of an optimistic approach one makes towards his target‘. Problems arise, however, when the good life turns out to be a bad life: ‘when something you desire is actually an obstacle to your flourishing one takes it up seriously to overcome that or surrenders to it blindly‘.
