Organisation- and Competence-Based Predictors of Innovative Behaviour – Empirical Analyses

Journal Title: International Journal of Contemporary Management - Year 2010, Vol 9, Issue 4

Abstract

The question of innovativeness determinants touches upon a wide spectrum of problems, such as economic, technological and socio-cultural nature. An increasing interest in the field of innovative behaviour of employees contributes to the search of factors that build competitive advantage of an enterprise on the basis of human capital. More and more frequently it is emphasised that the creation of the economic value is based greatly on immaterial resources. Thus, designing a model of research which deals with psychosocial and organizational factors, which are connected with company innovativeness, requires both reflection upon the interaction between various effects of the above mentioned factors, and integrating knowledge stemming from different scientific fields such as management, sociology and psychology. The research project concentrated on pinpointing two groups of predicators of employees’ innovative behaviour: 1) subjective predicators (competence potential) 2) organisational predicators (organisational culture). The results of the research indicate the interactive nature of predicators of innovative behavior (formulated as recognizing problems and initiating activities, and generating ideas and implementing them), with a dominant role played here by competence. The most important connections relate to competence factor „Pro-activity and creative activities” and „Self-management” (primarily, setting goals). With respect to pro-innovative culture the connection with innovative behaviour refers to two of its dimensions: „Positive interpersonal exchange and executive support” and „Market orientation and implementation of innovative ideas”.
