Journal Title: Forum Ortodontyczne - Year 2012, Vol 8, Issue 1

Abstract

Patients with congenitally missing permanent teeth often require an interdisciplinary treatment to get aesthetic smile and proper occlusion. Various treatment options are available for patients with maxillary lateral incisors agenesis. These options include: the canine substitution and subsequently correction its shape and colour or space opening for: prosthodontic replacements or implant placement. Restoring an edentulous area with a dental implant is a good treatment option. Creating a sufficient amount of bone is a definite prerequisite to ensure the placement of the dental implant in an optimal position. Orthodontic treatment plays a fundamental role, since it provides the required space through the appropriate tooth movement. The aim of this study was to present orthodontic treatment of adult patient with congenitally missing maxillary lateral incisor. The treatment resulted in creating enough space in alveolar ridge for implant placement. Additionally the review of the literature related to this topic was presented. (Orthod.
