OXIDATIVE STRESS AND ANTIOXIDANT LEVEL IN THE SERUM OF OSTEOARTHRITIS PATIENTS
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Scientific Research - Year 2015, Vol 6, Issue 1
Abstract
WHO estimates that osteoarthritis (OA) affects 9.6% of men and 18% of women older than 60 years of age. Increases in life expectancy and ageing populations are expected to make OA the fourth leading cause of disability by the year 2020. Oxidative stresses are believed to function as primary degenerative mechanism in the development and progression of osteoarthritis. The exact oxidant and antioxidant status in osteoarthritis is not clear. The objectives of our study to evaluate the changes in oxidative stress marker (lipid-peroxidation) and non-enzymatic antioxidant (glutathione) in osteoarthritis patients. This study was carried out in 50 osteoarthritis and 50 normal individuals. Levels of Lipid-peroxidation marker MDA and GSH were measured by UV-VIS spectrophotometer. Increased serum MDA level is found in OA as compared to control. Significantly decreased GSH found in OA as compared to control. The result shows increased oxidative stress and decreased non-enzymatic antioxidant in osteoarthritis patients

SAMPLE INTEGRITY ANALYSIS FOR PROTHROMBIN TIME AND INR AT DIFFERENT STORAGE CONDITIONS
According to the acceptable temperatures and storage time available in the literature for prothrombintime, samples need to be processed within four hours at laboratory temperature. But samples need to be stored if there...
MICROPROPAGATION OF Centella asiatica THROUGH TISSUE CULTURE AN ATTEMPT TO DEVELOP AN EFFICIENT PROTOCOL FOR LARGE SCALE PRODUCTION
Centella asiatica of Apiaceae is an important medicinal herb, found in the moist shady places as a wild species. Because of its medicinal value people do harvest the species from its natural population. This plant has be...
MHD FREE CONVECTION FLOW THROUGH A POROUS MEDIUM BOUNDED BY AN INFINITE VERTICAL PLATE WITH CONSTANT HEAT FLUX
This paper considers the problem of free convective flow of a viscous incompressible fluid through a porous medium bounded by an infinite vertical porous plate in the presence of transverse magnetic field. The plate is s...
SALINITY EFFECTS ON GROWTH AND PRODUCTIVITY OF TWO SOYBEAN (Glycine max L.) GENOTYPES
Global crop production systems are challenged by the increasing areas of saline soil in arid and semiarid regions.Afield experiment was conducted to test the salinity tolerance of two soybean genotypes (PK 416 & PS 1347)...
VESICULAR ARBUSCULAR MYCORRHIZAL FUNGI DISPERSED BYWASPS
Spores of vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi have been found in the digestive tracts of grasshoppers, crickets, millipedes, and in earthworm and ant (Hetrick, 1984). Some digging and burrowing animals do not themselv...
