Parapharyngeal Tumours - Surgical Expertise
Journal Title: Bengal Journal of Otolaryngology and Head Neck Surgery - Year 2014, Vol 22, Issue 2
Abstract
IntroductionWe present our experience in the management of parapharyngeal tumours. A conservative trans-cervical approach was found to be feasible and effective in majority of the cases over radical ones, which may be required in malignancies and skull-base involvement. MethodsFifteen patients with parapharyngeal tumours treated surgically in the Department of ENT, Nilratan Sircar Medical College in last 3 years were included in the study. 80% of the cases were benign, most common being Schwannoma. Most important investigation was found to be MRI. ConclusionThe study gives an overview regarding the surgical approach, based upon the extent and histology of the tumour. Trans-cervical approachwas found to be the most effective.
