Parent Form of the Childhood Sexual Abuse Myths Scale: Validity and Reliability Study

Abstract

Objectives: Parents have an important role in preventing childhood sexual abuse or intervening effectively it. In this context, parents are expected to first become aware of myths about sexual abuse and then increase the level of consciousness by gaining correct information instead of these myths. From this point of view, this study is aim to make validity and reliability studies of parent of the Childhood Sexual Abuse Myths Scale (CSAMS) developed on university students. Materials and Methods: Within the scope of this study, data were collected from 419 parents, 333 of whom were mothers (79.5%) and 86 were fathers (20.5%). The analysis of the data was carried out with SPSS and AMOS. Within the scope of the validity study of the scale, the construct validity and confirmatory factor analysis were examined. Results: As a result of the analysis, it was found that the fit indices of the two-dimensional structure of the parent form of the scale were significant and acceptable. Within the scope of the reliability study of the scale, the internal consistency coefficient was examined and it was observed that it had a high level of reliability. Conclusion: It is possible to say that Parent Form of The CSAMS has psychometric characteristics necessary for using this in the studies to be carried out in Turkey.
