Peer Influence on Smoking: A Review Article

Abstract

Smoking is a wide spread phenomenon in this world. When we talk about young or adolescents this is more common. Smoking is considered as a social trade mark for the young now- a -days. Adolescents majorly start smoking due to many factors but the important factor is peer influence. The young start smoking to endure conformity to their peer groups. This study is aimed to explore the influence of peers on smoking by reviewing the relevant literature available. It is aimed to know that how teenagers start smoking and this habit stay with them as long as they live. When they start doing it they become chain smokers. When they change their schools, colleges or universities they automatically find that group in which smokers already exist. Review of the literature was used as the research method and it signifies that really peers influence a lot on smoking habit and it also denotes that peers, best friends and even class mates play an important role in starting of the smoking habit
