Penicillin Resistant Pneumococcal Meningitis in Paediatric Trauma Patient

Journal Title: Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research - Year 2018, Vol 12, Issue 9

Abstract

ABSTRACT Pneumococcal meningitis is a life-threatening infection, requiring prompt diagnosis and effective treatment. The approach to therapy in patients with pneumococcal meningitis has changed considerably over the past 20 years because of emerging penicillin resistant pneumococcal meningitis. We report a case of Penicillin resistant pneumococcal meningitis in a six-year-old child after skull trauma injury. The patient responded well to injection ceftriaxone and injection vancomycin therapy and recovered completely without sequelae.
