Performance analysis on liquid desiccant based temperature and humidity independent control air-conditioning system

Abstract

The operating principle of the temperature and humidity independent control (THIC) air-conditioning system is proposed in present study. The humidity control system using liquid desiccant is described in detail, and the performance is experimentally tested. The COP (coefficient of performance) of the liquid desiccant system decreases with increasing outdoor relative humidity ratio. The summer average COP of the liquid desiccant system which is cooled by cooling water and indoor exhaust air evaporative cooling is 0.93 and 1.19 respectively. The operating energy consumption is compared between the liquid desiccant based THIC system and the conventional air-conditioning system. The comparison results show that the THIC system saves about 50% power consumption and 20-30% operating cost, compared with the conventional air-conditioning system.
