PERI-IMPLANTITIS: A MINI REVIEW

Journal Title: Journal of Advanced Medical and Dental Sciences Research - Year 2017, Vol 5, Issue 2

Abstract

Peri-implant mucositis is defined as a reversible inflammatory reaction in the soft tissues surrounding an implant. Peri-implantitis is an inflammatory reaction with loss of supporting bone in the tissues surrounding an implant. The overall frequency of peri-implantitis was reported to be 5% to 8% for selected implant systems. An increasing number of studies suggest that anaerobic plaque bacteria may have an adverse effect on peri-implant tissue health leading to peri-implantitis. Its prognosis will be contingent upon early detection and treatment of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis.
