Perspektywy rozwoju kolejowych międzynarodowych przewozów pasażerskich w Europie Środkowo-Wschodniej w aspekcie budowy linii dużych prędkości

Abstract
The last quarter of a century gave the relevant progress in shortening the transfer time between cities of Centre-Eastern Europe. They are shorter, on average by 27.5% in comparison with transfer times in 1989. However in spite of this progress railways in the international routes in this part of Europe have been systematically losing market shares to the benefit of aviation and bus transport or individual travels by car. Progress of construction the motorways and roads was faster and on a quality larger scale than covered railway lines modernization programs. Next part of the article presents plans of building the high speed line in countries of the region. Subsequently potential effects of the high speed network development remained for the radical improvement in transfer times from Poland to countries of the region were analyzed. Analysis results show that Poland can be an important beneficiary of these investments.
