Peruvian domestic politics and diplomacy: from the uncertainity to the stability of the South American integration project.

Journal Title: Conjuntura Austral: journal of the Global South - Year 2012, Vol 3, Issue 13

Abstract

This article analyzes Peruvian foreign policy, from the 1980s to the present day. After a historical introduction, we develop an analysis of the prospects of the government of Ollanta Humala, elected in 2011. Moreover, we analyze Peruvian bilateral relations with Brazil, the USA, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia and the regional integration under the Peruvian perspective (mainly related to the UNASUR, to the Andean Community and to drug trafficking combat). We can conclude that the Ollanta Humala government presents a clear reading of the scenario changes that have been presenting themselves, managing to better take advantage of the relations with the two axes of possible partnership.
