PHARMACEUTICO ANALYTICAL STUDY OF SAJALA NARIKEL LAVANA

Journal Title: International Journal of Ayurveda & Alternative Medicine - Year 2016, Vol 4, Issue 6

Abstract

Narikel Lavana was prepared by Sanskara and Samyoga methods. Samyoga Narikel Lavana was prepared by using combination of charred wet coconut and Lavana (rock salt). Sajala Narikel Lavana was prepared by puta method. Samyoga method is less time consuming, easy and cost effective than Narikel Lavana prepared by sanskara. Maximum temperature achieved during preparation of Sajala Narikel Lavana was 750-850 degree Celsius which was maintained for around half an hour. Narikel Lavana prepared by both methods had same organoleptic parameters. Both Narikel Lavana were further analysed by using sophisticated instruments like Flame Photometry, FT-IR Spectroscopy, XRD, TGA-DTA analysis. In FTIR analysis additional peaks of c-0 stretch of carboxylic acids and esters of fatty acids were observed in Sajala Narikel Lavana than rock salt (RS). XRD pattern of Sajala Narikel Lavana shows presence of crystalline structure of KCl in the form of sylvine which was not seen in RS, that indicates formation of new compound i.e. KCl during the process of heating. Method of Narikel Lavana recommended by ancient scholar is more appropriate to combat the diseased condition like parinaamshula.
