PHARMACOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF CURCUMIN: REVIEW ARTICLE

Abstract
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is widely used popular Indian medicinal plant which belongs to the family of Zingiberaceae. Curcumin, an important constituent of turmeric, is known for various biological activities, primarily due to its antioxidant mechanism. Epidemiological observations are suggestive that turmeric consumption may reduce the risk of some form of cancers and render other protective biological effects in humans like antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-angiogenic, anti-oxidant, wound healing and anti-cancer effects. This review summarizes the most interesting biological effects of curcumin.
