Philosophy of emptiness in “The Lesser Discourse on Emptiness”
Journal Title: ИДЕИ. ФИЛОСОФСКО СПИСАНИЕ - Year 2013, Vol 5, Issue 5
Abstract
This article examines the Buddhist philosophy of emptiness in the Early Buddhist tradition. On the basis of «The Lesser Discourse on Emptiness» (Cūḷasuññata-sutta, Ch. Xiao kong jing 小空經) the author shows that the “emptiness of concepts” by which is meant one of the three aspects of the universally Buddhist philosophy of emptiness is present (in the form of «practice of emptiness» – Ch. xing kong 行空) and plays important role not only in the Mahayana Buddhism, but already in the Pali canonical literature. The article contains a translation with commentary of the Chinese version of “The Lesser Discourse on Emptiness”
