PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PROFILE AMONG TAIF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS AT TAIF GOVERNORATE, SAUDI ARABIA

Abstract
Background: Physical activity is daily occurred by applying various activities such as sport exercises, which need to use the particular physical skills, working at home, and doing other daily works.[3] However, physical inactivity is a global health challenge that may cause death. ―Physical inactivity has been considered as the fourth fatal risk factor (6% of deaths globally). Methodology: A cross sectional survey on physical activity profile was conducted on 554 (373 male and 181 female) students attending Taif University between September 2016 to December 2016. Taif. Results: Students which was practicing High intensity exercise was 52.9%, while Students which was not practicing High intensity exercise was 47.1%. Students which was practicing moderate intensity exercise was 61.4%, while Students which was not practicing moderate intensity exercise was 38.6%. Discussion: A cross sectional survey on physical activity profile using International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was conducted on 554 male and female students attending Taif University with age range from 18-26 years in which 117(21.1%) medical students. Based IPAQ survey, our study found that 261 (47.1%) was practicing a high intensity exercise, and 340 (61.4%) of the participants were practicing a moderate intensity exercise. This percentage (61.4%) is very close to the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation, which is 62% that indicated on a cross sectional study that was applied in Southwestern Saudi Arabia (Abha).
