PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION STUDENTS’ LEVEL OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS IN THE PREVENTION OF CIVILIZATION DISEASES

Abstract

The Aim of this study was to characterize the physical activity of students with higher than average knowledge about the importance of physical activity and nutrition in health promotion and diseases prevention.The study included youth of two academic universities – Academy of Physical Education and Sport in Gdansk and University School in Olsztyn. 214 correctly com pleted questionnaires were analyzed. A survey was conducted in academic year 2008/2009. Diagnostic survey was used. The main research tool was a questionnaire survey. In order to de termine the level of represented physical activity, the International Physical Activity Question naire (IPAQ) was used.AF (Physical Activity) level measured in terms of IPAQ questionnaire described in MET- minute/week was 4176.0 in men and were statistically higher than in women - MET-minute/week 2772.0 (p = 0.0005). AWFiS students showed statistically higher physical activity than OSW students (AWFiS: 3964.0 MET-minute/week OSW: MET-minute/week 2970.0, p = 0.0372). Recommended in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases level of energy expenditure that exceed 2000 kcal / week did not meet 37% of surveyed women and 8% of men.Deficiencies in physical activity related mainly to female students who, despite a high level of knowledge by virtue of the chosen faculty (protecting factor), did not show sufficient commitment to pursue a healthy lifestyle particularly in relation to physical activity.
