Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 4, Issue 11
Abstract
Ziziphus mauritiana Lam. is an important medicinal plant belonging to the family Rhamnaceae. Preliminary phytochemical screening of the leaf extract of Ziziphus mauritiana revealed presence of different types of secondary metabolites such as glycosides, tannins, phenols and saponins. The methanol leaf extracts of Ziziphus mauritiana showed significant activity against Staphylococcus aureusand Escherichia colithat suggest one of the chemical components that exist in the extract such as glycosides, phenol, tannins and saponins can have a powerful antibacterial effect.
