Abstract
„THE FIFTH SIDE OF THE WORLD” – UPPER SILESIA IN CONTEMPORARY CULTURE The article presents reflection about imaging of Upper Silesia in contemporary culture. The problem of cultural representations of the region was outlined on the political and historical background, and also refers to modern civilizational changes associated with globalization. The basis for the analysis were case studies, which include the branches of cultural creativity such as theater, literature, music, cinema and television. Beside the review of selected examples from the present, the author presented commentary about the future of culture in Upper Silesia.
