Abstract

Mixed laryngomucocele is a laryngeal disease that forms from the anomaly of the upper part laryngeal pouch, and precisely its upper part called laryngeal saccule (saccule of the ventricle of Morgagni) that extends above the upp er, interna l margin of the thyroid cartilage. The etiology of the laryngocele isn 't fully known and the origin hypotheses are still very controversial. As the most probable cause we should mention frequent pressure injuries inside the laryn x, post laryn geal-traumatic stat us, male sex, innate predispositions, systemic – storage diseases bu t also tumor growth. We can differentiate the laryn gocele on the extern al, int ernal, and mi xed because of its relationship to the thyroid cartilage and the thyroid membra ne. In case of infl ammation process it can transform into the piomucocele. We are presenting a case report of the 57-yea r-old male patient with the large mixed mucopiola ryngocele on the left side of the neck. He was admi tted to ER because he had been sufferi ng from dyspnoea. The patient also suffered from hoarsene ss, presented tumor on left side of neck and his body tempera ture reached 37.8 8C. Indirect laryngoscopy showed the massive swelling of the left laryngeal vestibular fold that completely obscures the glottis. The patient underwent the surgery and broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy. There were no complications during the post-operative period.
