Abstract
The animal food of ants of the Formica rufa (Linnaeus, 1761) group (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) in the stand of trees of Łaskarzówka forest (Rudziniec Forest District, State Forests Regional Management in Katowice). This paper presents the results of the analysis of the animal food of ants of the Formica rufa group. The survey was conducted in selected tree stands of Rudziniec Forest District (Upper Silesia, Poland) between May and September 2002. The collected food was characterized by great diversity. There were representatives of 8 classes of invertebrates collected with 83% of insects among them. Insects in almost all developmental stages were foraged: larvae, pupae, imagines. The representatives of 138 taxa were gathered, among them a number of insects either beneficial to forest ecosystem or pests.
