Północne powiaty województwa lubelskiego w systemie obronnym Polski w latach 1926-1935

Abstract
In the following article, the author presents the role of northern counties of the Lublin voivodeship in the Polish defence system in 1926-1935. These counties, sometimes called South Podlasie, were a separate economic and social region (due to their economic structure, nationality, and even geographical environment). The article shows the impact of particular elements of the natural, economic and demographic environment on functioning the defence system in the region, paying attention to the military administrative division of the area and units distribution. Additionally, it highlights a strategic role of the area devoid of essential defensive elements, and at the same time being the foreground of Warsaw and the shortest straight route between Berlin and Moscow. The author mentions the national structure of the northern counties, which was advantageous for the country's defences, but also states the lack of the educated technical personnel.
