Abstract

The article discusses the effect of the direction of arrival of the stimulus on the response time of the driver. The results of tests carried out on numerous groups of drivers are described. The research was carried out at the test stand in the Department of Vehicles and Fundamentals of Machine Design, Lodz University of Technology. The test stand allows repeatedly force the response on the incoming optical stimulus. The examined people take s seat in the cab of the real vehicle and make typical maneuvers such as braking or turning. Using the sensor set, response times of drivers for the stimulus were measured. The extensive research material (several thousand measurements) accumulated over the last few years has allowed for analysis which the results have been presented. Authors noticed the relationship of the reaction time on the location of the stimulus in the field of view of the driver. The results of the analysis showed the elongation of this time to a dozen or so percent. This phenomenon is so pronounced that it seems to be important to continue research on this issue.
