Polyphosphoric acid (PPA) in road asphalts modification

Journal Title: CHEMIK nauka-technika-rynek - Year 2012, Vol 66, Issue 12

Abstract

Recently increasing traffic volume and loads are the reason for the increase of requirements for road surfaces. Longer lifetime of pavements can be achieved by modification of asphalt binder by modifiers, mostly polymers. Polyphosphoric acid (PPA), alone or in a conjunction with a polymer, can significantly improve rheological properties of bitumen. An effect of such modification strongly depends on amount of PPA added and the nature of asphalt being modified.
