POSSIBILITIES OF EVALUATING OPERATING CONDITIONS OF ROSOMAK MODULAR ARMOURED VEHICLE BASED ON DATA OBTAINED FROM ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS
Journal Title: Scientific Journal of the Military University of Land Forces - Year 2010, Vol 158, Issue 4
Abstract
The paper presents the results of investigations into the operating conditions of a combustion engine of the Rosomak armoured modular vehicle – a military vehicle fitted with a diesel engine. The tests were performed based on the data acquired from the OBD system. With the use of such information it is possible to obtain information on the actual engine parameters, including vehicle fuel consumption. The measurements were carried out on a road portion of several kilometres of varied characteristics. Time density characteristics and fuel consumption were determined in the following research phases: urban cycle, extra urban cycle – defined by cruises outside the city limits and dual lane roads, and off road combat simulating cycle – apart from standard characteristics, an instantaneous torque boost was used, (overboost). The two modes – standard and overboost – have been compared on the matrices of the engine operation share in each mode and fuel consumption was determined by engine speed and engine load coordinates (or alternatively vehicle speed and acceleration) that characterize the dynamic engine or vehicle properties. For the measurements of the engine operating conditions and the information on fuel consumption, vehicle on-board diagnostic network has been used; the data obtained served as a basis for the formulation of the matrices of engine or vehicle operation for different aspects of the conducted investigations.
