Journal Title: Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences - Year 2016, Vol 6, Issue 5
Abstract
Tropical cyclones cause substantial damage to Odisha, one of the coastal states of India, because of the geographical situation and dense population living in the coastal belts. Poor housing is the major cause of increased mortality and morbidity due to cyclones1. The cyclone, Phailin, had devastating effects on population of southern parts of Odisha, India, in the year 20132. Natural disasters such as cyclone, cause several health problems in children due to infections, intoxications, envenomation, trauma and including psychological depression and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)3. The objective of this study was to record all the poisoning cases admitted during the period of 30 days after Phailin and compare the demography with the patients admitted since 1 month before and for same time period in the following year.
