Posterior Uretheral Valve in a child: Imaging and case report.
Journal Title: International Journal Of Medical Case Reports - Year 2016, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
Posterior urethral valve (PUV)is one of the important causes of bladder obstruction in males. It was first described by Hugh Hampton Young and coworkers in 1919. It may manifest along a spectrum of severity, ranging from disease incompatible with postnatal life to minimal affection that may go unnoticed for years together in postnatal life. On ultrasound it may appear as dilated and elongated posterior urethera along with bladder wall thickening and trabeculation. We present here a 21/2 year old male child who presented to us with bilateral hydronephrosis. On micturating cystourethrography dilatation and elongation of the posterior urethra was noted. Later transuretheral ablation of the valve was done.
