POSTOPERATIVE NAUSEA AND VOMITING
Journal Title: Çukurova Anestezi ve Cerrahi Bilimler Dergisi - Year 2018, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) continues to be a common surgical complication today. PONV is a blocking factor especially in the early discharge of ambulatory surgery patients and is a leading cause of unexpected hospital admissions. PONV may lead to some stiuations that may increase total health care costs such as potential hospital admission, expanded nursing care. Additionally, it is associated with patient dissatisfaction. Although there are many different classes of agents in the treatment of POBK, treatment of PONV is often more difficult and less effective than prevention. Therefore, antiemetic prophylaxis should be initiated as soon as possible in patients at risk.
