Potencjał geoturystyczny kopalni kredy w Mielniku (Nizina Podlaska)

Abstract

This article evaluates the geotourism potential of the chalk opencast mine in Mielnik (Fig. 1–5), the only geological site of this type in the Polish Lowlands. The geotourist evaluation of the chalk mine in Mielnik shows that it has a large (nationwide) geotourism potential (Table 1). It is an object of high didactic value, despite the limited availability of information about it. It is also an object of high geotourist attraction, despite the insuffi cient geotourist development. In order to improve the insuffi cient geotourist development of the chalk mine in Mielnik, a new information board was proposed, “Chalk Mine in Mielnik”, with a location overlooking the most interesting part of the site and with an accent on the geological history of the rock mass (Fig. 6).
