Abstract
Ernst August Friedrich Klingemann’s Faust translated by Prince Edward Lubomirski it’s the 24th book in a series of publications titled “Black Romanticism”. It’s the first edition since 1819 when the drama was presented the only time to Polish readers. The Białystok’s series in view of profiled subjects and methodology can be called an alternative history of Polish Romantic Literature, written along other narrations. The edited piece is important for the beginning of the age, because it contains translator’s preface where the concept of the development of national drama is presented. It precedes both the creative practice of Mickiewicz as well as his theoretical reflections, which culminated in Paris public lectures. The Klingemann’s piece was preceded by lengthy studies by Jarosław Ławski, Steffen Dietzsch, Leszek Libera and Marta Kopij-Weiß, which reconstruct the circumstances for the creation of drama and present the characters of both the author and the translator. The publication of Faust has had a significant impact on the present historical-literary order and has changed the face of the Romantic breakthrough in Poland.
