Poza kapitalizmem i socjalizmem. Dystrybucjonizm jako alternatywa wobec materialistycznego postrzegania ludzkiej egzystencji

Abstract

Hilare Belloc and Gilbert Keith Chesterton are commonly recognized as prolific British writers, authors of many memorable works of the early 20th century. However, from the plethora of topics they covered in their writings, the economic theories they created together are probably the most forgotten. These ideas created and developed throughout the years are usually known as “distributism”. This name marks the economic system inspired by the Catholic Social Teaching, designed by Belloc and Chesterton to be a possible remedy for the problems of both most popular answers to economic issues – Capitalism and Socialism. The British duo (known by some as “Chesterbelloc”, term created because of their close friendship and accordance of beliefs) argued, that a better solution is not only possible, but is in fact the most natural way of regulating the economic matters of the society. In the ruthless times of English Industrialism they advocated the common possession of private property, established and maintained by such elements as differentiated tax, the guild system, widespread agriculture and the solid foundation of Christian morality. In this article the Authors argue, that the idea of Distributism is still valuable in the 21st century and that many solutions created by its authors could still be implemented in present societies, being an alternative for the purely materialistic vision of economy and solving or preventing many of modern issues.
